Aadhaar Authentication

Aadhaar Authentication means the process by which the Aadhaar number (or Virtual ID) along with the demographic information or biometric information of an Aadhaar number holder is submitted to the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) for its verification and such repository verifies the correctness, or the lack thereof, on the basis of the information available with it.

It can be done using any (one or two) Details

    (i) Demographic Details

    (i) OTP or TOTP

    (ii) Biometric Details 

Virtual ID

Virtual ID is a temporary, 16-digits random number that can be used in place of Aadhaar number whenever authentication is performed. Authentication may be performed using Virtual ID in same manner as using the Aadhaar number. It is not possible to retrieve Aadhaar number from Virtual ID.

You can generate/regenerate/retrieve VID by:

    (i) using Website

    (ii) mAadhaar

    (iii) using SMS

Aadhaar Lock and Unlock Service

You can also lock your Aadhaar for Authentication. After locking Aadhaar you will not be able to perform authentication using Aadhaar number and authentication will be performed only using VID. VID is mandatory for UID LOCK/UNLOCK.

You can Lock/Unlock your Aadhaar by

    (i) using Website

    (ii) mAadhaar

    (iii) using SMS

Biometric Lock and Unlock Service

You can also lock your Biometric for Authentication. After locking Biometric you will not be able to perform authentication using Biometric and authentication will be performed only after temporarily unlocking Biometric.
